The Five Ancestors:Crane

May 16th, 2010 by zac4tme

Hi, it’s Zac here.  I just finished reading a book called the five ancestors:crane.  This is the fourth book in the series by Jeff Stone. This is one of my favorite books in the series.   In this book Hok who was sent away from her parents at the age of 3, is sent to Canghezen Temple.  There she has to hide her identity and pretend to be a boy.   Only the Grand Master knows that she is a girl.  In the first chapter, it fast forwards and now Hok is 12.  She wakes up after being drugged in the middle of a forest.  She sees a man in an orange robe, who is from the famous Shaolin Temple.  When the drug starts to cause an affect on her again, the man says that he is going to use her to attack Shaolin Temple.  It turns out that the man is a General for the Emperor’s army.  When she wakes up again, she is lying in a bed in a silk robe.  She jumps out the window and starts running for the forest.  The general tries to stop her escape and breaks her arm.  But she is still able to escape.  She falls asleep near a bridge and is picked up by a boy who looks like a ghost. She is taken to a house and sees a woman in the distance.  It is her mother.  She has a little sister that calls herself Princess.  Her mom is on the run and they decide to go to the city of  Kaifeng where the dragon boat festival is being hosted.  There Hok finds finds her brothers from Canghezen Temple, Seh, Fu and Malao.   Then out of nowhere comes the Emperor’s army pointing their qiaungs at Seh wanting  the dragon scroll.  It contains a map that leads to a treasure.  They are able to escape and get away.  2 questions that I had in this book are:  Is AnGangesh pretending to hurt Seh?  If so, is she on their side? and another question I had was:  Will Hok be arrested or will PawPaw stand up for her?  That’s all for now Bye!

Snake: by Jeff Stone

Hi,it’s Zac here and I wanted to tell you about this book that I am reading called Snake, by Jeff Stone.  Seh (which means snake in Cantonese.) and his brothers are monks that live in Cangehezen temple.  But when their brother,Ying who has been gone for a year he comes back seeking revenge.  He  now leads the emperor’s army.  Ying comes with more power and all of his soldiers have a weapon called a  quiang.  With a quiang, an unexperienced soldier can kill a monk with a lifetime work of martial arts.  Ying and his soldiers leave nothing left of Canghezen  temple. Seh and his brothers,Fu, Hok, Malao, and Long are all that are left of the monks and are separated after the attack.  This book, the third book in the series, tells about Seh’s journey.  After the attack, Seh goes to the mountains where  monks go to talk.  When Seh goes there, he meets a former Canghezen monk who knew his father.   The man’s name is NgGung  which means caterpillar.  NgGung challenges Seh to a game he calls”One thing you’ll know for every solid blow.”   When Seh nearly kills him, he decides to stop playing and answer all his questions.  NgGung gives Seh a blue silk robe, hat and shoes.  He also tells him where his dad (who is also a former Canghezen monk but now a bandit leader.) is.  Seh easily finds him easily and then his dad who is named Mong sends him to another temple called Shaolin temple.  When Seh arrives, there is even more damage done to it than Canghezen.  Seh can sense when people are close by, begins to feel people close by. It is his brothers Malao and Fu!  This is far as I was supposed to read in my book club so this is all I can tell for now, bye!

April 22nd, 2010 by zac4tme

Hi,It’s Zac here and I would like to tell you about this book I finished called,The 39 clues:Beyond the Grave. It was great! This one starts off in Cairo,Egypt where the next clue leads them to.  In the beginning of this book, Amy and Dan find themselves in a market. But guess what? Amy turns around for 2 seconds and when she looks back,Dan’s missing! When she leaves their Au pair, Nellie behind to go find him she and Dan see someone they never expected to see Irina Spasky their  Russian cousin who’s a spy and she’s looking for the 39 clues too! When she spots them, Dan and Amy start running away and eventually loose her.  Then they bump into a man named Theo,an explorer that used to be a tour guide in Cairo. Nellie isn’t mad at Dan and Amy for running away like that when she sees that they brought along Theo. But soon after, when Dan and Amy find an item that can lead them to the next clue ,Theo tries to steal it!!! When Theo tells them that Irina Spasky payed him to do it they trick her into taking a fake lead to the next clue! Which gives them one less person to worry about. That’s all for now because I don’t want to spoil it. I loved the way that Jude Watson throws so many twists and turns into and shocked me with new twists to the story.

I hope you read this series because it is GREAT! That’s all for now,BYE!

Adora Svitak

April 19th, 2010 by zac4tme

Hello, It’s Zac here and I would like to tell you about a amazing person.Adora Svitak,a 12 year old child prodigy got a computer when she was 6 and started learning from there, she has a published book called Flying Fingers and then started traveling around America giving speeches to teachers and students all around America. I listened to a speech she gave called:What adults should learn from children. I thought it was a great speech and she had very great points on it that showed that adults can learn many things from children and that today’s kids are the future of tomorrow so adults should teach children at young ages so that they will be smarter in the future. So than we can have a better future for the world. It is amazing that someone that’s only a little older than me can be so good with words and that smart.   I thought the speech was inspirational and that her point was right. I thought that it was funny how when she talked about getting her book published the children’s publisher she asked to publish her book said that he didn’t work with children which was strange since he was a children’s publisher . I also thought it was funny that she had to lend her older sister money. She pointed out that many children changed the world. Like Anne Frank and Ruby Bridges.  She also pointed out that  adults usually have low expectations for children and she said that adults should instead have higher expectations for children. so than can succeed later in life. I thought it was a tremendous speech and it inspired me to try harder to be the person that I can be in the future. I hope you are inspired by this speech too. Well that’s all for now, bye!

The 39 clues :The sword thief.

April 15th, 2010 by zac4tme

Hi, It is Zac here and I wanted to tell you about this book I’ve been reading called The 39 clues The Sword thief. I’ve been on spring break so I didn’t post about the first 2 books but I will just give a brief overview of the whole series so far. When Amy and her younger brother Dan go to there Grandma Grace’s funeral, they don’t expect to be given the choice of 2 million dollars or going on the search for the 39 clues that their grandma Grace has left all around the world for the family to find (if they do take the challenge.) So when they take the challenge, they find themselves surrounded by their power hungry relatives who willing to do anything to get the 39 clues, even if that means killing them to get to it. In this book after following the first 3 clues they find themselves in Tokyo on the race for the 39 clues. And they find in order to get to the 4th clue, they are going to have to trust the people that they hate the most. Will it cost them? Read the book to find out. WARNING: The following sentences could RUIN the book for you!!!!  If you don’t care, than in order to read the following sentences, you must highlight the white to see the words. Something that surprised me in this book is that the Kabras formed in alliance with them and then back stabbed them in the back and left them to die . Some thing else that surprised  me is that there Uncle Allistar, faked his own death just to shake them off. THAT”S ALL FOR NOW, SEE YA LATER!
